For 12 prepared guitars and digital sound processing
Silvia Ocougne - composition/guitars
Christophe Meierhans- sound engineer/programming of Max/DSP
Silvia Ocougne works in Ilu Olonlo with traditional guitars that come from many different regions in Brazil and are used in several music styles such as cavaquinho, viola do coxo, banjo-bando and craviola. She also works with acoustic and electric guitars that are prepared and played as table guitars as well as using their traditional techniques. The original sounds are first acoustically prepared with the use of many different materials and in a second step digitally processed (Max DSP).
The result that comes out of these sound layers are projected in the room through 7 boxes producing an effect as if traditional Brazilian sounds and rhythms were observed through lenses, under different prisms; a re- interpretation trough estrangement and filtering. This estrangement within a cultural and aesthetic context may provoke a productive misunderstanding thus opening new perspectives.
